The BGAN M2M service uses Inmarsat BGAN to provide a reliable, global two-way IP data service. It is designed to enable remote monitoring, control of unmanned sites, and visibility and management of these assets. By combining BGAN M2M with mobile connectivity in the same terminal, the EXPLORER 540 offers users the ability to select the best carrier based on availability for each site.

Dual Mode BGAN M2M
The Explorer 540 is the only BGAN M2M terminal from Inmarsat to offer dual mode operation, which provides unparalleled flexibility and cost control in M2M data communications by ensuring that the most cost-effective communications service can be selected depending on the location. To ensure the continuity of M2M IP data transmission, which often takes place in hard-to-reach remote locations, Dual Mode provides automatic switching between BGAN and cellular networks. The terminal is well secured for customized M2M solutions such as IP SCADA for data backhaul, asset tracking, real-time monitoring and remote telemetry.
Designed for any environment
The Explorer 540 is a rugged M2M terminal that delivers reliable and secure IP data even in the harshest environments. At 20 x 20 cm and only 1.6kg, it is the smallest and lightest BGAN M2M terminal currently on the market. The housing is dustproof and water jet protected to IP66, making it the perfect choice for any type of fixed installation outdoors or indoors.
The terminal can be switched on and off via SMS, also a reboot or firmware update can be performed remotely. The terminal can also be controlled via 3GPP AU commands. The antenna must be aligned only once during installation to the available Inmarsat satellites. The firmware is designed for secure and continuous operation on the BGAN network 24 hours a day, if required.
The housing is dustproof and water jet protected according to protection class IP66.
EXPLORER 540 is BGAN M2M certified and BGAN Class 2 type approved for services such as BGAN Link.
